"The artist need not to be present to make a lasting impression."

The Saboteur focuses on improving his traps and mines with utility bonuses and additional traps and mines.

Remote Mine is a support gem that modifies the supported skill so that instead of casting it directly, the player lays a mine. A detonation skill then becomes available, which can be used to detonate the mine. That's why we can get high damage on single target in this build. What's more, this build have high clear speed and no need to aim!

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • + high single target damage
  • + significantly higher clear speed than most mine builds
  • + no need to aim
  • + it's a viable ES build
  • + "alch and go"

Cons

  • - fully geared version can be expensive
  • - can't equip much magic find gear
  • - not as fast as top speed clear builds such as Tornado Shot

Gems Setup

Note: Gems joined with + are linked. Gem groups separated by ; do not need to be linked.

Body armour: Arc + Remote Mine + Controlled Destruction + Lightning Penetration + Trap and Mine Damage + Elemental Focus

Arc Mines with 4 damage supports. Pretty self-explanatory. Use Minefield Support until you get a +1 mine helmet, then replace it with Elemental Focus. Try to get a level 21 Arc as soon as possible for the extra chain.

4 socket #1: Wrath + Blood Magic (level 20+); Discipline; Clarity (level 1)

The Wrath aura gives more lightning spell damage and activates low life when linked with Blood Magic. The Blood Magic support needs to be at least level 20 for Wrath to reserve less than 100% of life. Discipline provides bonus flat energy shield. Level 1 Clarity is only used to gain the extra ES from Watcher's Eye.

4 socket #2: Cast when Damage Taken (level 1) + Immortal Call (level 3) + Increased Duration + Phase Run (level 3)

CWDT Immortal Call is a popular setup, providing physical immunity for a short duration after taking damage. Phase Run is an underrated CWDT skill, allowing you to move through monsters while ignoring their hitboxes. If you find yourself stuck in the middle of an angry pack, just wait for Phase Run to activate and walk out of the danger.

4 socket #3: Cast when Damage Taken (level 1) + Detonate Mines + Temporal Chains (level 5); Flame Dash

CWDT Detonate Mines is mandatory on all mine builds. If you have mines placed, they will go off when you are attacked, neutralizing the threat. This can save your life if you would have been slow to react. Enfeeble can be used instead of Temporal Chains as a defensive CWDT curse depending on your preference. Flame Dash is nice for climbing ledges and crossing gaps.

Main Hand: Spell Totem + Detonate Mines

Spell Totem with Detonate Mines is amazing for mine builds, especially against bosses. Place the totem and then spam your mines. The totem will automatically detonate the mines for you.

Offhand: Vaal Clarity + Vaal Discipline + Increased Duration

Vaal Clarity is an aura that gives us zero mana cost of skills while active. It is very useful for a mana-hungry mine build. Vaal Discipline allows energy shield to recharge even while taking damage. It's a clutch emergency option for ES builds. Increased Duration makes both of them last longer.

Offhand (optional):

Shield Charge + Faster Attacks

Gem swap: Added Cold Damage

Added Cold Damage can be swapped for Trap and Mine Damage to shatter enemies. This is especially useful in maps that contain porcupines. Stick with Trap and Mine Damage for bosses, as well as maps without porcupines, such as Underground Sea. Don't forget to swap out Elemental Focus as well when using Added Cold.

While leveling, look for rares with a high life roll and good resistances. A pair of Axiom Perpetuum make good leveling weapons. Around level 60, shift your focus to looking for rares with both a good life roll and a high amount of energy shield, as well as chaos resistance on a couple of pieces. A hybrid setup with a decent buffer of energy shield to protect your life works well until you are ready to go low life. See the budget / hybrid version in the Path of Building section for an example with some realistic gear.
